NetClose - Close Control Overview

Overview

Close Control is how NetClose protects a period once the work behind it is done. It provides two complementary kinds of lock: transaction locks that prevent new postings to the general ledger by subsidiary, transaction type, segment, and more, and module locks that freeze finalized work in the NetClose Flux Analysis, Reconciliations, and Tasks modules. Because a close often spans days or weeks, Close Control lets you lock the areas that are finished while the rest of the close continues.

Watch this walkthrough of Close Control: locking transactions and account segments to prevent posting to the general ledger and locking NetClose modules once a period's close work is complete.

Lock transactions and account segments

Locking transactions and account segments restricts what can post to the general ledger. You can lock by subsidiary, transaction type, user, role, and segment, as well as by custom segments. This is useful for locking finished sections of the ledger before the entire NetSuite period is closed, or as a safety mechanism when a NetSuite period is temporarily reopened for edits. Navigate to NetClose > Close Management > Lock Transactions & Account Segments.

Tiered locking

By default, selecting several dimensions locks any transaction that matches any one of them. Tiered locking changes this to precise, all-conditions logic: only transactions that match every selected dimension are locked. For example, with Subsidiary A and Vendor B both selected, only transactions that include both Subsidiary A and Vendor B are restricted. Enable it under NetClose > Setup > System Setup > System Features.

Lock NetClose modules

Once a period's close work is complete, you can lock the Flux Analysis, Reconciliations, and Tasks modules to prevent further changes. When a module is locked, users see a "Module Locked" badge in place of action buttons, fields are disabled on the record, and edits are blocked. Navigate to NetClose > Close Management > Lock NetClose Modules.
