NetCash Testing Bank Connections in Sandbox
Overview
NetCash pulls bank transactions automatically through API-based bank feed connections. For US banks, those connections run through Netgain's partnerships with Plaid and Finicity (Mastercard); other providers cover other regions. Before positioning NetCash to a client, you can install it in a NetSuite Sandbox and confirm that a specific bank connects and that transactions flow - no license required. This article walks through that end to end, starting from a clean Sandbox.
Installing in Sandbox
NetCash can be installed in a Sandbox without a license. A partner or prospect can install it and test bank connectivity before purchasing.
Video walkthrough
Before you start
You need:
- A NetSuite Sandbox account you can install into.
- A user with "Access Token Management" permission (Administrator is recommended) to install the app.
- Login credentials for the bank account you want to test. The connection uses the bank's own login screen, so you connect the account the same way an end customer would.
Step 1: Install NetCash in the Sandbox
Install the NetCash app in the Sandbox instance. In short: confirm the SuiteCloud Development Integration bundle and required SuiteCloud features are enabled, create an access token, then install NetCash from the Netgain provisioning site. Once installed, NetCash appears as a center tab in NetSuite.
For the full step-by-step, see NetCash Installation.
Step 2: Make the tester a NetCash User
Each person who needs to use NetCash must be set as a NetCash User.
- Navigate to Setup > Users/Roles > Manage Users.
- Open the employee record and select Edit.
- On the NetCash subtab, set NetCash User Type to Full.
- Click Save.
For administrative access and the full permission reference, see NetCash Roles and Permissions.
Step 3: Connect the bank account
- Navigate to NetCash > Setup > Bank Connect.
- Hover over New Bank Connection and select an API provider from the dropdown. Plaid is recommended first; if a connection is unavailable or unsuccessful through Plaid, use Finicity.
- Click Next to reach the bank selector. Eight common institutions show by default - use the search bar to find the specific bank you want to test.
- Select the bank. The screen transitions to that institution's own login.
- Log in and select the bank accounts to connect, then click Submit. The institution and its accounts are added to the list of connected banks.
Step 4: Confirm transactions pull (recommended)
Connecting confirms the login works. Pulling transactions confirms data actually flows, which is the more complete test.
- Navigate to NetCash > Setup > Bank Accounts and select the account you connected. A panel opens on the right.
- Complete the required fields, then Save:
- Initial Balance - the account balance at the end of the day before the Cutover Date.
- Cutover Date - the date transaction imports begin. The first of a recent month works well for a test.
- GL Account - the GL account for this bank account.
- Pull transactions immediately instead of waiting for the nightly run: in the NetSuite global search, type NetCash | Bank Tran, choose the script for your provider (Plaid or Finicity), edit the deployment with a Not Scheduled status, and click Save and Execute.
- Verify the results under NetCash > Reports > Bank Activity.
The required-field details and manual-pull steps are covered in Automatic Bank Connection Setup.
If the bank isn't available
- Not in the Plaid list - try Finicity (repeat Step 3 and select Finicity as the provider).
- Outside the US - use GoCardless for the EU or Skript for Australia.
- No API support for the bank - import activity through NetSuite's Match Bank Data or the CSV import tool.
- Direct bank API - some banks connect through a Direct API Connection by Netgain.
If you are not sure whether a specific bank is supported, contact Netgain before positioning it with the client.
Moving from Sandbox to Production
Sandbox testing confirms connectivity; the connections do not carry over to Production. When the client is ready to go live, set up connections fresh in Production and follow NetCash Transfer from Sandbox to Production.
Recreating existing connections
If a Plaid or Finicity connection to an institution and account already exists and needs to be recreated, contact Netgain Support before proceeding to avoid duplicate transactions or conflicts between old and new records.
